Superintendent of Banks, Alabama State Banking Department
Mr. Mike Hill was named Superintendent of Banks for the State of Alabama Banking Department on July 5, 2016, by Governor Robert Bentley. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Hill served as a state representative from Shelby County and spent decades on the House of Representatives Banking and Insurance Committee which is now called the Financial Services Committee.
Having served in the US Army after graduating from the Advanced Army ROTC Program at Auburn University, Mr. Hill joined the First National Bank of Shelby County, in Columbiana, from 1972 to 1986. He worked at Cahaba Title, Inc., in Pelham, from 1986 to 2008. Mr. Hill then re-entered banking in 2009 when he joined Regions Bank - Shelby County then Central State Bank in Calera in 2015.
Mr. Hill was elected to represent District 41 (Shelby County) in the Alabama House of Representatives in 1986 and has served on the following committees: Insurance (Chairman), Financial Services, Shelby County Legislation, Southern Legislative Conference Fiscal Affairs and Governmental Operations, and the North American Energy Council (Past Chairman).
In 1972, he graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Quantitative Methods. Mr. Hill is also a graduate of the School of Banking of the South (Louisiana State University) and the Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma. Other affiliations include: Legislative Liaison of the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders, Alabama Association of Realtors, and the Advisory Board of Shelby Baptist Hospital. Civic relationships include: Columbiana Kiwanis Club, Inverness Lions Club, State Easter Seals Board (Past Director), Birmingham Rehabilitation Board (Past Director) and the Alabama Chapter of the American Lung Association (Past Director). He enjoys politics, grandchildren, travel and Auburn University sports. Mr. Hill and his wife, Carol, attend the First Baptist Church of Columbia and have two married children: Hayden Jeffries (Eric) and Hunter (Evelyn) and three grandchildren.
