Michael J. Dean
Regional Director - FDIC Atlanta Region
Michael J. Dean was appointed to Regional Director in January of 2015. Mr. Dean is responsible for the Risk Management, Compliance, and Consumer Protection programs for the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia that comprise the FDIC’s Atlanta Region. He previously served as the Deputy Regional Director for Compliance and Consumer Protection of the Atlanta Region, a position he has held since July of 2002. Prior to this, Mr. Dean served as Assistant Regional Director for Risk Management in the former Memphis Region where he also had responsibilities for the administrative area and for financial institutions within the State of Louisiana. Other positions held by Mr. Dean include case manager and senior examiner within the Division of Risk Management Supervision.
Mr. Dean’s 27-year career with the FDIC includes other notable responsibilities, including serving as the Acting Deputy Director for Strategic Planning and Resource Management within the Division of Risk Management Supervision.
Mr. Dean graduated from Bryan College, Dayton, Tennessee with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He earned his Master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts. He is also a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
